{wip wednesday…the free motion quilting version}

Well, as usual, I have my week and weekend cut out for me!!

I have three big quilt tops that I want to get all pieced this weekend. Two of them are above…my Scrappy Trip Along quilt (right) and my Stash Bee Quilt. I decided to make my scrappy trip along quilt a little bigger, so I had to order more border fabrics (darn! LOL!!!). I'll share what I get when I get it! Super excited!!!! In the meantime, I'm going to get the 20 blocks pieced.

For my Stash Bee quilt, I'm going to add big sashing, again, to make it bigger. I can't wait to have this red and white beauty pieced. Then the fun of deciding how to quilt it…

My third quilt top I want to finish is my red and teal 4×6 color bee quilt. I need to finish four more blocks for it. I'll design those block when I need a break in my other projects! ♥

Speaking of quilting…my main project this week is making this improv pieced top into 30 mug rugs! It actually cut into 42 mug rugs!!! I guess I pieced it a little bit bigger than I thought!!

Here's how the process has been working in the last two days…

1. Piece a big quilt top…

2. Sandwich your layers and quilt!!!

3. Cut your mug rugs at 5"x7"!

4. Now it's time to put binding on these little cuties!!!

A few final thoughts…

I loved quilting this because I took time to practice. I also took time to look at other quilting on quilts that I have, books that I own, and sites that I love!

You can see some of the designs I did on this picture above.  It took a lot longer to quilt that my usual quick meandering takes. At first that irritated me (I'm used to quick finishes! eeeeek!! something I definitely need to work on!), but when I cut the top up, the dense quilting really paid off!!

We'll see how long it takes to bind these suckers! I'm hoping to have a fun Hobbit marathon once I get to the hand stitching stage…

What are you working on this week???
