Happy Friyay, dear reader!! I’ve been thinking about you all week long and looking forward to sharing some faith with you today.

Do you ever have a day where you are paying attention to your own moods? One moment you are on top of the world and the next, you are about to eat your children!!! (okay, that may be a bit harsh, but you mommas know exactly what I mean!!)

This happened to me the other day. I had no cause and effect on which to pin my moods! No one was sick, no one had won the lottery…it was just tiny circumstances that were affecting me. The kitchen was clean one moment – I was on top of the world. Someone put a dirty cast iron skillet next to the sink – I was about to go ballistic. (True confessions are good for the soul, folks! just trying to keep it real!!)

Thankfully, I was paying attention, and I noticed later that after I covered myself with worship music (meaning I engaged in singing and thinking about the words I was singing), I was a completely new person. I also found that day that once I looked up some verses and wrote them in my journal and really thought about them, I was a bit more grounded and ready to tackle the harder tasks of my day.

Thirdly, I found that just being mindful about what was going on with me caused me to take captive my negative rants in my brain and led me to seek out encouraging words that lifted my soul! If I am so picky about what music I listen to at certain times, why am I not as picky as to what words are running through my head???

It’s not always easy to make time to capture your thoughts or listen to the “right” music or write the Word of life in your journal. But I think taking that time is paramount to really understanding the path the Lord has us on!

Those are some ideas, some ‘coping mechanisms’ (my catchphrase that goes with ‘mindset’!) that illustrate 3 ways to get a shot of faith today!!

  1. Engage in musical worship! Learn a new worship song. My darling friend Julie introduced me to this Vertical Worship song, Yes I Will. You will LOVE it!! Sing along! Listen to the words…live the words!
  2. Write out a scripture that you are thinking about or can’t get out of your head or that you’ve recently heard in a sermon and resonated with! Psalm 27:11-14 was mine today!
  3. Stop yourself the minute you recognize that you are ranting in your head. Replace that thought with a THANKFUL thought. ie… “I can’t believe they used all of the forks again! And I have to wash them…shoveling in a snowstorm!!!” turns to “I am sooo very thankful that the Lord actually gave me my daily bread today! And that I got to eat my meals with my sweet loved ones!”
