How to spruce up (get it?) a Christmas panel!!

In a few hours, you can have a quilt ready for Christmas!

Supplies:

  • 1 Christmas tree panel (I used Marblehead Glistening Metallics III by Ro Gregg)
  • 1/3 yd two different Christmas patterned fabrics
  • 1/2 yd red solid fabric
  • chalk pencil for marking
  • green embroidery thread (I used Aurifil 12wt), needle and hoop
  • fusible web OR glue stick

Here's what the panel looks like to begin with…

Let's sew!!

1. Cut your three background fabrics: red solid – 18" x WOF (width of fabric); spotted fabric – 7.5" x WOF; swirlie fabric – 10.5" x WOF

2. Sew your fabrics together with the 7.5" fabric in the middle of the other two.

3. Cut out your tree with a 1/4" outside of the tree line.

4. Iron on fusible web to the wrong side of the tree and adhere it to the background fabric.

5. Using a zigzag stitch, sew all around the tree.

6. Cut out a star and glue (using a simple glue stick) it where you want it above your tree. Using a straight stitch (or zigzag if you prefer!), sew around your star!

7. Cut out one row of ornaments, and using a glue stick, adhere them where you want to sew them. Sew around the main part of your ornament using a straight stitch.

You can continue to embellish the ornaments through your quilting, too!!

8. Using a chalk pencil, write your word on the bottom right of your quilt top. *Practice writing your word choice on a sketch pad to figure out how you want it to look!

9. Using a back stitch, embroider your word!

And you have a quilt top!!
