I had a wonderful time sewing this awesome pleated skirt using Jona Giammalva's Essential A-Line Skirt patterns book and Patty's Blush Big Blooms fabric. Perfect for summer and winter, just add sandals or boots!! ♥

I also made a little mini quilt with my signature word art and Patty's beautiful butterfly line art!!!

Mini_Grass_LR

This is a very easy mini quilt to put together!!

Grab some fat quarters of your favorite Emma's Garden fabrics and let's sew!!!

Here's the graphic layout of the quilt!!

First, the pinwheel blocks:

Check out this tutorial on how to Make 8 HST at once! The magic 8 method!

Using the above method, your finished HST will be 1 1/2" finished. Your finished pinwheel blocks should be 3" finished!

You should start with two 4 3/4" squares of each, the blue fabric and the yellow fabric. Follow the tutorial to create 16 HSTs.

Sew the HSTs together to create the pinwheel block. Sew 4 pinwheel blocks.

Next, the middle block:

Using a light table or a lit window, trace the butterfly and the word art onto a rectangle of white solid fabric sized at 10.5" x 7.5".

Using fun different colors of embroidery thread and a back stitch, embroider your word art and butterfly.

Stitching_Closeup_4_LR

Use 3-ply thread on the outlines and one-ply for differences like the antenna.

Use french knots for fillers inside your butterfly wings!!

Now, for the borders of the mini quilt:

Cut butterfly fabric borders… two 7.5" x 3.5" and two 10.5" x 3.5".

Sew your sides onto your embroidered center piece.

Sew your pinwheel blocks onto the ends of your 7.5" x 4.5" strips and sew to your top and bottom of your quilt center.

Cut two 16.5" x 2.5" strips (for the sides) and two 17.5" x 2.5" strips  (for the top and bottom) of your blue outside border fabric.

Sew your sides and then your top and bottom strips.

Mini_Back_LR

Use the last of your scraps to create your quilt back!!

Make your quilt sandwich and quilt it up!!

Mini_Flipped_Corner_LR

Use that fabulous yellow fabric to bind your quilt!!

And Voila! A sweet mini quilt!!

Just for fun, I put little EPP (english paper pieced) hexies on the middles of two of my pinwheel blocks for added interest!
