Ohhhhhh the party begins!!!!

And we are celebrating Carrie of Such Designs and her new fabric collection, COLLAGE that comes to stores in July!! So fun!!!

I have a confession to make…I met Carrie and her mom at Fall Market in 2011. She had the cutest booth with the BEST patterns! So I picked up a few…

Her way of creating art through fabric impressed me immediately!

I know that there are a GOB of people who walk through booths at Quilt Market, so I'm pretty sure Carrie doesn't remember me! 🙂

Fast forward to this past February…

While meeting with my sweet friend Erin at QuiltCon, I met Laura with Windham Fabrics! So fun! She remembered a few weeks later that I was a pattern tester with Erin, and she got a message to me that Carrie needed a pattern tester for her newest quilt pattern! I saw a pic of the quilt and I immediately agreed to test the pattern for her!!

Laura sent me Collage fabrics and Carrie sent me the pattern and her original quilt to use as a guide! It is gorgeous…

Here's the original quilt…

I can't wait to see it up close in person at Spring Quilt Market in Portland in May!!

Here are some closeups I took of the top…

Love the whole idea of a watercolor paint tray!! What an awesome way to show off this fabulous fabric line. She also includes the templates for those awesome curved edges, which makes this pattern super fast and easy!!

But what really captured my heART was the fact that Carrie took her child's artwork and transcribed it onto fabric!

My kiddos love drawing. There are pieces of paper all over my house with little drawings on them. So I got to looking at all of the fun COLLAGE scraps sitting on my cutting table, and I decided to create a mini quilt based on one of Lillian's drawings.

First, I asked Lil to draw a picture.

Then after enlarging her sweet little princess that she drew on my copier, I used fusible web to make little patterns for each of the blocks of fabric I used.

After fusing and using raw-edge applique on the pieces of the princess, I had Lil write the words, "Once upon a time there was a princess named Lillian" and I traced them onto my quilt top. I embroidered all of the outlines and the text using black perle cotton.

I added borders (ohhhh my gosh, I can't get enough of this awesome text fabric and alpha fabric!!!! eeeeeeek!!! So coool!!!) and I sandwiched and quilted this fun mini quilt!

Both Lil and I love it!!!

Not only did Lil and I love it, my 13yo Emma immediately asked if I'd make her one with one of her landscape drawings. Of course, I said yes!! So be on the lookout for that fun mini quilt!

I'm so thankful for Carrie and for Laura over at Windham Fabrics for their trust in me and their generosity with such awesome fabrics!! Isn't the quilting business so fun???

And guess what???

They are going to be generous with YOU, too!!!
